Description
Hydrometers are instruments for measuring the specific gravity of liquds at a specific temperature. They can also be called 'lactometers', which are hydrometers used specifically for milk. This hydrometer is part of a collection acquired from the University of Reading's Department of Food Science Processing Laboratories. This hydrometer is probably also a lactometer. It has liquid mercury in the bottom part of the bulb, which gives weight to the hydrometer and also acts as the fluid in the thermometer. It has a specific gravity scale from 25-35 in units (not specified) of 2.5, and a thermometer scale from 40-80° F. The instrument is contained in a cardboard tube with the name 'K. SCOTT, M.A.C.' on it.
