Description
This is a chaff cutter fork, a type of fork which was attached by a chain to a box-type chaff cutter. It was attached to a box cutter, and used to draw the hay out straight and then pin it down whilst a sharp blade was used with a chopping motion, thus producing chaff. This chaff cutter fork was found in the beams of a barn on a farm where it was known to have been in possession and use for at least 100 years.
