Nothing is known about the origin of this wrought iron ratchet hanger, which was used for suspending cooking utensils over an open hearth. It has a tubular upright which has been flattened and fourteen teeth.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The upright of this hanger is 2 feet 3 inches long. It is tubular but has been flattened at the hook into a bar 1 inch by .25 inch. There is a knob from which the loop is suspended. The loop has a 3 inch curled point. // The ratchet is 2 feet 6 inches long, 2.6 inches wide and has 14 teeth.
