This is a steel shovel with an ash handle. It has been suggested that it was used for shovelling and stoking fuel for a steam engine. The shovel originally came from Begbroke Farm in Begbroke, Oxfordshire.

The Accession Files and MERL 'Associated information' forms for objects 60/180-60/206 give no information about the objects other than that they came from Begbroke Farm in Begbroke, Oxfordshire, and were transferred to MERL by the Department of Agriculture at the University of Oxford., MERL ‘Associated information’ form – ‘Tentative identification – obviously used for stoking large quantity of fuel at a time.
