This is a lease made on October 13th 1749 between Robert Chaundler of Crondall, Hampshire, and John Hall. It is written on one side of foolscap paper in the contemporary legal hand. The tenant was to lease three quarters of an acre of land for the growing of hops. The occupation of the tenant is listed as 'cordwainer' - a worker in fine leather and a shoemaker. This lease reflects the period when craftsmen plied their trade within the village, and also carried on some agricultural pursuit to supplement their income.
