Also called butter boards and originating from Somerset, used for manipulating butter into large blocks. According to the catalogue of Pond & Son, small pats of butter are made by rolling between these boards.

There are no grooves on the faces. Use: For manipulating butter into large blocks. Said to be used by grocers for making blocks of butter which are cut again into smaller portions as required by the customer. According to the catalogue of Pond and Son small pats are made by rolling between these boards.’
