Beschreibung
This basketwork bag, constructed like a small ‘frail’ or ‘flail’ basket, is made of plaited palm and bound with webbing. The webbing goes around the basket and lid and forms two handles, one of which goes through a slit in the lid. A stick would have been pushed through the handles so that it could be carried over the shoulder. It was made in Devon or Cornwall, where it was known as a ‘grub bag’, and was used until c. 1900 by farm workers in that area to carry their food.
