Beschreibung
This is a flat iron, also known as a 'sad iron' or 'egg iron'. It has a solid base and was heated on a stove. It is embossed with the letter 'I' on the top. The iron was used by the donor's father, a Portsmouth sailmaker who also made round caps for sailors which he used this iron to press in the 1860s and later.
