This crimping machine, used in dressmaking, was used in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire in the late-nineteenth century. According to the donor, crimping machines of this type were used by travelling dressmakers in country areas. The machine was manufactured by Thomas Clarke.

The machine is 9.5 inches high and stands on a wooden base measuring 11.5 inches by 7.5 inches. The brass rollers are mounted on an iron stand. The handle is wooden. Pressure can be altered by a screw fitted above the rollers. The machine is marked 'Thos Clarke Warranted Crimping Machine'. The donor claims that machines of this type were used by travelling dressmakers in country areas.'
