This clamp, also known as a woodscrew, would be have been used by a carpenter or cabinet maker to hold material, often when gluing. It consists of two wooden arms which are tightened by two wooden hand screws. It was donated to the Museum by the Woodworking Department at the University of Reading.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This type of clamp was used for holding firm a carpenter's or cabinet maker's material for various purposes, but mainly for glueing. The two wooden arms are tightened by two wooden hand screws. One screw pulls the arms together at their jaws, the other pushes them apart at their rear end, but as the first screw acts as a fulcrum, the latter effectively tightens the jaws even more firmly. Both screws should be turned together to obtain the best grip. // The screw measure 18 inches in length, and the arms are 11.5 inches long.'
