MERL 'Catalogue index' card – ‘… // DATE ACQUIRED: // GROUP: // NEGATIVE: // PERIOD: // PLACE OF ORIGIN: // NUMBER: // DESCRIPTION: …‘ This docking iron came from Totness, Devon. // It consists of two turned handles into one of which the tang of the iron blade is driven and into the other the tang of the curved and grooved piece of iron which receives the blade. The two arms of the docking iron are joined by a bolt. The blade end of each of the handles is bound by an iron band. // The blade which is round measures 3 inches across, the whole tool is 17.5 inches in length. // See also 51/383 // Science Museum Nos. 15206 Inv. 1937-151.
