Beschreibung
This is a bevel, a woodworking tool consisting of a hinged arm for measuring angles. It has a thin moveable steel arm which moves stiffly on a rivet in the slotted end of its thick arm. This thick arm is of mahogany with brass at both ends, and can also slide along half the length of the steel arm. When the thick arm is set against a straight margin, the instrument throws a line at any desired angle across the wood worked upon. It was used by the donor's father, who was a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire.
