At one point, a thatched hut was set up in Trafalgar Square to register new recruits. A national campaign was launched in 1945, persisting well into the 1950s as rationing and labour shortages continued. Some people who 'lent a hand' got a taste for farming, going on to study at agricultural college or move to the countryside. This particular poster was designed by S. Howell and produced for H. M. Stationery Office by Fosh and Cross, London.MERL 2010/148</SPAN></SPAN></P></DIV>
