Hydrometers are instruments for measuring the specific gravity of liquds at a specific temperature. They can also be called 'lactometers', which are hydrometers used specifically for milk. This hydrometer is part of a collection acquired from the University of Reading's Department of Food Science Processing Laboratories. It has a tapered bulb which has lead shot in the end. It is for measuring specific gravity at 60° F, and has a scale of 600 - 800 (units not stated) in divisions of ten and two.
