Beschreibung
This steelyard was suspended by a single hook at the top, and the object to be weighed was hung on the two hooks at the bottom. There is a loop on the bar, which once held an iron bob or weight but is now missing. Balance was made by sliding the bob along the bar to the appropriate weight. By turning the scale over, reversing the two bottom hooks and suspending the steelyard from a third hook at the bottom, weights up to 20 lbs could be recorded.
