MERL 'Catalogue index' card – ‘… // DATE ACQUIRED: // GROUP: // NEGATIVE: // PERIOD: // PLACE OF ORIGIN: // NUMBER: // DESCRIPTION: …‘ It consists of a rectangular box fitted to one blade, the other having a flat piece of metal at right angles to it which carried the cut wick into the box and extinguished it. The spike which projects from the front of the box was for uncurling the wick prior to cutting. The snuffer was originally supported by three feet, one under each handle bow and one under the box, so that it would stand on the table, but these are now missing. //
