This dolly was made for the Festival of Britain by Fred Mizen at Great Bardfield. It is made to look like a scythe, and is made entirely of straw, except for one or two parts which are strengthened by wire, and one piece of metal.

Dollies are no longer mounted on ricks or thatched cottages, and are made as curiosities to be hung up in houses and inns as examples of an old craft. The shapes have changed from the traditional 'necks', 'kern babies' and cocks, to elaborate designs such as this scythe. //
