Reaccessioned in MERL Archives as document. This lease was made on the 13th October 1749. It is written on one side of foolscap paper. It is a lease for twenty one years of one and a half acres for growing hops, for the yearly rent of £3 11s 10d. The land was to be kept and left in good condition when the lease ran out.

He was allowed to carry hop poles and dung across the field called Bagmoor at 'Seasonable times' as long as there was no crop on the field which he could damage by carting. //, MERL miscellaneous note - AN AGREEMENT made this Thirteenth Day of October in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and forty nine BETWEEN Robert Chaundler of Crondall in the County of Southampton Yeoman of the one Part and Thomas Cranston of the same place Husbandman of the other Part as follow's. // The said Robert Chaundler for and in consideration of the Payment of the Yearly Rent and the performance of the Agreements hereinafter mention'd HATH Let unto the said Thomas Cranston ALL that piece of Land containing by Estimation One Acre and half more or less being part of a field called Bagmoor and adjoining to the Garden of the said Thomas Cranston to plant the same with Hops with free Liberty of a Cartway through the said field called Bagmoor to carry in Poles or Dung at seasonable times TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid piece or parcel of Land with the Appurtenances unto the said Thomas Cranston his Executors and Administrators from the feast Day of St. Michael the Arch Angel last past before the Date hereof for by and During unto the full End and Term of Twenty-one Years from thence next Ensuing and fully to be compleat and Ended YIELDING and paying therefore Yearly and every year during all the said term unto the said Robert Chaundler his Heirs and Assigns the Yearly Rent or Sum of three Pounds Eleven Shillings and tenpence at the time before mention'd for the Payment thereof AND the said Thomas Cranston Doth hereby Agree and Promise to Pay or cause to be Paid unto the said Robert Chaundler his Heirs or Assigns the aforesaid Yearly Rent Payment thereof AND also shall and will keep up and maintain in good Repair all the Fences belonging to the said piece of Land AND make use of the Cartway above mention'd only at such times as there is no corn in the said field or other damage to be done by carting that way AND the said Robert Chaundler doth also Agree that if the said Thomas Cranston shall be willing to leave the above mention'd piece of Land and Desire to be quit from this Agreement before the Expiration of the said term of twentyone Years He shall and may have free Liberty to leave and quit the same at any time only giving one Years notice thereof in writing and to leave the same planted with Hops in husbandlike manner whensoever he leave's it Either before or at the Expiration of the said Term IN WITNESS whereof the Parties above mention'd have hereto set their hands the Day and Year abocesaid. // The Mark of Thomas X Cranston // Witness ot the above agreement // William Chutter // J.
