This partly finished cask was made by the Master Cooper at H. & G. Simonds Ltd., known as the Bridge Street Brewery, in Reading, for an exhibition in 1955. It consists of eleven oak staves, one iron hoop and one wooden hoop.

Simonds Ltd. of Reading for an exhibition in 1955. The cask is pictured in its raised state. The eleven staves are held in place by an iron raising hoop around their base and by a truss hoop around their middle. Every subsequent truss hoop knocked on by the cooper will be smaller than the previous, thus pulling the sides of the staves together. Only once the cask's staves are firmly set in place will all the truss hoops be removed.<P>68/435</SPAN></SPAN></P></DIV>
