This is a pig ringer, an iron veterinary instrument for putting a ring through a pig's nose. It was used at Hollins Farm, Silverdale, Lancashire.

<DIV STYLE="text-align:Justify;font-family:Georgia;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:16;color:#000000;"><P><SPAN><SPAN>3. <B>Pig Ringer</B><P> This tool worked like a pair of pliers to make a neat hole in the soft tissue between the pig's nostrils so that a ring could then be inserted. The ring discouraged the pig from being too destructive with the 'rootling' or digging action of his snout.
