MERL 'Catalogue index' card – ‘… // DATE ACQUIRED: // GROUP: // NEGATIVE: // PERIOD: // PLACE OF ORIGIN: // NUMBER: // DESCRIPTION: …‘ The toaster consists of three strands of wire, twisted for half their length, and forming an open triangle for the rest. The ends bend over in small hooks at the open end, and there is a small ring, which pulls them together when it is slipped upwards. The other end terminates in a loop, so that the toaster could be hung up. The chestnut was presumably fitted between the hooks and held there by the tightening of their grip caused by slipping the ring towards the end. //
