Nothing is known about the origin of this ratchet hanger, which was used for suspending cooking utensils over an open hearth. It has a tubular upright, twelve teeth and a grooved and curled hook.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The tubular upright of this hanger is 15.25 inches long. It is hooked at one end and at the other there is a knob from which the loop is suspended. // The ratchet is 17 inches long, 2.25 inches wide and originally had 12 teeth. The fourth from the bottom has been broken away. There is a rectangular hole in the ratchet below the sixth tooth from the top. The ratchet hook is grooved and curled. // The ratchet and upright are joined by a ring on the top inside corner of the ratchet.
