الوصف
This is a wooden hay rake with twelve tines (one of which is now missing), and two semicircular bands of wood connecting the head to the handle. It is of the type used in the North Riding of Yorkshire and was, according to the donor, valued for its lightness. As well as being used to rake hay, it was also used to make hay ropes – one man would feed the hay from the haycock or ‘pike’ while the other twisted it into rope by rotating the rake.
