الوصف
This egg-shaped wooden box is a needle case, and contains a bobbin and needles. The box opens at the centre into two halves. It is an example of Tunbridge ware – a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork in which of a mosaic of tiny pieces of different coloured woods form a picture. This work was characteristic of Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, Kent, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This needle case has a landscape scene, below which is the word ‘Dunstaffnage’. The castle at Dunstaffnage, Argyll and Bute, was said to be the historic seat of the Scottish monarchy.
