الوصف
A brushing hook, with metal blade and wooden handle, for trimming, thinning and clearing brush thickets. It is inscribed 'Fussell // Mells // 2' and the tool marks on the edge of the blade indicated that is an original Fussell hook, made before the firm was taken over by Nash. The hook belonged to the donor's grandfather, a farm bailiff in the Tadley area of North Hampshire.

MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Institute of Agricultural History) – 'Recorder: JMB // Date: 14.12.87 // Description: Brushing hook // Inscription: FUSSELL // MELLS // 2 // Dimensions: Length: 51.0 cm Length of handle: 15.0 cm // Associated information: This hook belonged to Mr Appleton’s grandfather who was a farm bailiff in North Hampshire (TADLEY Area) // This tool has marks on the edge of the blade which according to Dr Collins are the marks of the craftsman who made the hook. This is a sign that it is an original Fussell Hook made before the firm was taken over by NASH.’
