MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a pint measure for measuring grain, probably used by Cooper, Taber & Co., or their predecessors. // It is turned from beech wood and is bound at the top by a strip of brass. It is 3.8 inches in diameter and 6.15 inches in height. // The measure is stamped with the verification mark of Victoria’s reign, on the inside and the outside. Also with the word pint in two places. Owing to their gradual shrinkage, wooden measures were not accepted for verification in England after 1907. [pencil sketch]'
