الوصف
This is a large, firmer gouge used in making wheel hubs. It has an out-cannelled blade (the grinding bevel is on the outside) made of two different metals, and a name is imprinted on the inner side near the handle, which appears to be 'Mottram'. After the blade has formed a neck, it widens into a flattish octagon which lies against the end of the handle, while the central shaft of the blade is embedded in the handle. A leather washer lies between the handle and the blade. The wooden handle is octagonal and its diameter increases slightly towards the end. This gouge was used at R. Middleton & Sons wheelwrights shop in Eddington, Hungerford.
