الوصف
These pincers belonged to a saddler in Alton, Hampshire. They consist of two handles and two curved jaws, serrated on their inner sides. The leather was grabbed by the jaws, and in order to pull the leather tight over a wooden frame the iron projection on the underside was placed against a fixed margin. By pressing the handles downwards the leather was pulled tight on the frame and could either be nailed or sewn in place. The tool is inscribed with the name of the maker, 'J. Dixon'.
