This is one of 10 duplicate 'bronze' medals awarded to Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies between 1839 and 1889, and came from the company's Cape Town branch when the branch was closed. At the time of accession, the original medals were still in the possession of Ransomes. This medal shows on the one side six women while the one is giving a wreathe to the other. On the other side there is a bust of a woman with a man in the background; this one-sided duplicate shows the the bust of the woman and the man. The original dated from the Great Exhibition (London) in 1851.
