الوصف
This is a steelyard, a weighing device. It consists of a horizontal beam with measurements from 5 to 200. At one end is a hook on which to hang the weight and at the other end there is a hook for suspending the steelyard and three hooks from which to hang the items to be weighed. It is inscribed 'Imperial 210 improved, W. & T. Avery'. It was used by the donor's grandparents at the Plough Inn, Ashmansworth, which was also a smallholding. They ran the pub from 1902 until 1914.

Other end consists of body with hook for suspending steelyard, and three more hooks hanging below from which items to be weighed would hang. Inscription reads: 'Imperial 210 improved, W. & T. Avery' // Dimensions // 63cm (length of cross beam) // Associated information // Used by depositor's grandparents at Plough Inn, Ashmansworth, near Newbury. Grandfather took over pub in 1902. Left in 1914. Pub was also a smallholding.'
