A candle box was a common feature in households during the eighteenth and nineteenth century. This candle box is made of painted tin and has two handles by which it could be hung on the wall. It belonged to Mrs. George who probably lived in the neighbourhood of East Hendred, Oxfordshire.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'A candle box was a common feature in households during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was made of sheet metal, and hung up horizontally. The metal was usually brass or tinned iron. // This candle box is made of painted tin. It is oblong in shape and has two handles by which it could be hung on the wall. It was the property of Mrs. George who probably lived in the neighbourhood of East Hendred (Berkshire).
