These fifteen wooden bobbins are made of holly. They are very light and only have one neck. They are of an early type of bobbin called 'dumps' or 'bobtailed bobbins' and were used to make Bucks Point lace. They came together with a lacemaking pillow (51/842).

Visiting researcher note, Ann Dismukes (lacemaker), 1 October 2014 – These are Honiton bobbins and were all made by the same maker., MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'These wooden bobbins are made of holly. They are very light and have one neck only. They are probably an early type of bobbin called DUMPS or BOBTAILED BOBBINS, and were used to make the finest kinds of Bucks Point, the thread of which would have been broken by heavier spangled bobbins. // Miss Smith gives no indication of the place of origin of these bobbins. // See also 51/238M. // See also 51/842 Pillow', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
