Description
This sewing basket, for storing sewing items, was made in France in the nineteenth century. It is an oval basket with a drop ring handle at either end. It is made of buff willow with a turned-skein bottom, open-work sides and a ‘Monaco’ border (a large trac border with five rods).

Archival history
The Ann Mary Pilcher Collection of Victorian Baskets (67/60-94) was collected by Ann Mary Pilcher in 1957-1967, mostly from junk shops and stalls.
